One Anastomosis Gastric Bypass
One Anastomosis Gastric Bypass (OAGB), also called mini-gastric bypass or single anastomosis gastric bypass, is an emerging technique that is gaining popularity amongst surgeons worldwide for its great results in weight loss and resolution of obesity related diseases. While technically simpler comparing to a RYGB, is also safer regarding to short-term complications. It differs from RYGB by creating a longer gastric pouch and bypassing a longer segment of intestine without diverting the bile juice (one less connection). One of the major concerns is bile reflux and its consequences (alkaline gastritis and esophagitis, esophageal cancer), though long-term data is lacking to support this cause-effect association. Expected effects and outcomes are similar when comparing with RYGB in short and mid-term follow-up.
